Pamela has always done an outstanding job keeping the pag- eant Queens together from 1991 — 2017 as a pageant sister- hood. With the crowning of Mrs. Washington America 2017 Deidra Murphy, Pamela had a total of 24 Queens celebrating on the stage, while amazingly only missing three previous years’ title holders. That is quite a feat, considering the former Mrs. Wash- ingtons’ expansive responsibilities that they all have in their per- sonal lives: being wives and mothers, schooling, careers, community issues, and volunteerism. The former Queens came from all over the State of Washing- ton, as well as from Arizona, California, and Texas, to support Pamela’s 25th Anniversary Pageant. This year a Queen’s Luncheon gathering was added to the festivities, and it turned out to be a very emotional, heartfelt experience for each of them. They shared with one another what it took for them to participate and how each fi- nally made it to the title of Mrs. Washington America, in addition to sharing what each has accomplished since that time. The speeches were highly inspirational and made a lasting impact. The 2017 State Pageant was held at the lovely Washington Center for the Performing Arts in the state capitol at Olympia. Historically, the Mrs. Washington America Pageant embraces the theme of “Making a Difference” in our society, and all the Queens have brilliantly done so during their respective reigns. The theme continues to this very day. Congratulations to Pamela Curnel for yet another outstand- ing event. Congratulations also goes to Mrs. Washington Ameri- ca 2017 Deidra Murphy, 1st runner-up Jena Cook, 2nd runner-up Derozette Banks, 3rd runner-up Magan Waldron, and 4th runner up Lauri Pounder. The citizens of Washington State can be very proud of their pageant contestants and the good works they do. And of course, bravo and best wishes to Natalie Luttmer for a fabulous reign as Mrs. America! □ Sky’s the Limit - Miss March 2017 of Humboldt County Skylar Elcock enjoys the vin- tage WWII “Flying Fortress” planes on the Wings of Freedom Tour in Mckinleyville, CA.
