your look ● hairstyles By Hillary Stone PHOTO BY TED WEST It’s Time for a Spring Fling With a few simple steps, you can achieve the perfect hairstyle for this season’s important events and even the biggest moments of your life I t’s time for spring and that means it is time to fling— fling your hair, that is. Springtime is the season to get romantic, so why not start with your hair? Wearing your hair half up and half down is absolutely the best way to show that you have class, but you still like to have fun. This upscale and sophisticated look that we created for our model, Ashley, is both fun and flirty. The style was in- spired by Jennifer Lopez at a recent red carpet appearance. It is a perfect look for any formal occasion, such as a prom, date, a graduation party, or even within an evening gown competition. It is a very versatile look that you can leave simple, as we have, or you can dress it up with a rhinestone hair accessory. If you have curly hair, feel free to diffuse your hair, but be confident that it is 100% dry before applying any iron. STRONG AS IRON For Ashley, we used a marcel iron. We started with a large section of hair at the nape of the neck. If you put in a style product before you dried the hair, then you are ready to curl. The subsection should be about twice the size as the diameter of the iron. Our iron has a 1.5-inch rod, so our subsections are about 3 inches in diameter. Wind the hair along the length of the iron from the base
