Springtime is the season to get romantic, so why not start with your hair? Wearing your hair half up and half down is absolutely the best way to show that you have class, but you still like to have fun. This upscale and sophisticated look that we created for our model, Ashley, is both fun and ﬂirty. The style was in- spired by Jennifer Lopez at a recent red carpet appearance. It is a perfect look for any formal occasion, such as a prom, date, a graduation party, or even within an evening gown competition. It is a very versatile look that you can leave simple, as we have, or you can dress it up with a rhinestone hair accessory. The Pageantry Beauty Team of Gozde Arisoy, Amanda Ellis, Tammy Fischer, and myself have created this handy tutorial for you to duplicate this style at home. You can use any curling iron or hair wand you choose, but be sure not to overwork your hair as it can cause more frizz. When begin- ning any thermal work, your hair must be clean and 100% dry. To achieve this sophisticated yet ﬂirty look, just follow these easy steps: HOLD IT RIGHT THERE Apply a light hold, liquid gel and a heat protectant prod- uct to freshly-shampooed hair. The amount of product de- pends on the texture and density of your hair. More hair means more product. The diameter at the base of your pony tail is the amount of styling product you should use. ALL DRIED UP Rough-dry your hair to about 90% dry. Use a thermal, ventilated round brush and blow dryer to ﬁnish the hair to 100% dry with movement, volume and bounce. If you have curly hair, feel free to diffuse your hair, but be conﬁdent that it is 100% dry before applying any iron. STRONG AS IRON For Ashley, we used a marcel iron. We started with a large section of hair at the nape of the neck. If you put in a style product before you dried the hair, then you are ready to curl. The subsection should be about twice the size as the diameter of the iron. Our iron has a 1.5-inch rod, so our subsections are about 3 inches in diameter.
