Miss America Updates Her Image

Welcome to the new ideal of Miss America. Under the auspice of new organization CEO Robin Fleming, the Miss America Organization has been implementing changes since she took the position in January of last year.

In the newest announcement, the Miss America Organization has updated several requirements or rules. And nothing is more antiquated than the former “anti-boyfriend” or “ant-fiancee” rules of yesteryear. As recently announced, the rule will no longer apply and Miss America is welcome to recognize a significant other. And what better way to celebrate than with the announced engagement if Miss America Madison Marsh.

According to Ms. Marsh, the organization was completely thrilled with the announcement and shared it to the corporate social media account. As stated following her announcement, “”I think a lot of women were really excited because this means that, in the Miss America Organization, you don’t have to hide your significant other anymore,” she said. “This should be a celebrated part of our life. Because it is life, and it’s something that’s beautiful, so we were all super excited.”

Miss Universe Gains 50/50 Partner

The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) and its owner, the Thailand-based JKN Global Group, are excited to announce a new partnership with Mexican business conglomerate Legacy Holding. This strategic investment for growth will build the brand’s international profile and allow for new product and marketing opportunities, in the global market. Longtime pageant fan Raul Rocha Cantú, Legacy Holding’s board president and CEO, joins JKN Global’s founder and CEO Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip as co-owner of the merged, privately-held company JKN Legacy. Rocha Cantú is also the franchise owner for Miss Universe Mexico, and his team will lead the planning of the 73rd Miss Universe competition to be held in Mexico later in 2024.

Miss Universe also announces that Olivia Quido-Co will take on the role of Vice President for Global Partnerships, focusing on implementing and expanding mission-driven work and corporate social responsibility around the world. She will also be working with Miss Universe’s many franchise partners and National Directors in the nearly 100 countries who are part of the program, as well as corporate sponsors and partners. Quido-Co remains the CEO and President of Miss Universe Skincare and Spa.

Mario Bucaro has also joined the team as Vice President of International Relations, to be based in Mexico City. The leadership team will also include Carlos Martinez, Vice President of Finance; Jose Castillo, Vice President of Strategic Projects; and Mauricio Rocha, Vice President of Legal.

“Raul’s entrepreneurial background and impressive business success will allow us to push forward with the pageant-product-platform triangle, which I’ve introduced over the past year,” said Jakrajutatip. “We first met at Miss Universe 2022 in New Orleans, and he has since been integral to several of our launches, including Miss Universe Skincare in 2023. Our collaboration has been a fantastic partnership so far and I look forward to growing our legacy brand even further in the years ahead.”

“I’ve always thought there was a broader opportunity to bring Miss Universe’s massive audience more of what they’ve been looking for, in terms of products and merchandise,” said Rocha Cantú. “It’s one of the most famous names in beauty with an iconic legacy of over seven decades, and we are excited to utilize it to create more opportunities for women around the world. Everything we create will be grounded in our mission to uplift, empower, and inspire women to embrace their truest selves.”

Miss Universe will remain a private corporation based in the United States. The overall direction of the media property will remain unchanged, including recent rule changes and eligibility requirements. The corporate headquarters will be based in Mexico City; digital, social media, and communications will come out of New York City; and the Thailand branch will be responsible for in-house content and production. Sheynnis Palacios, the 2023 Miss Universe titleholder, will continue to be based in New York City where she fulfills her duties as a global ambassador and mental health advocate.

Miss Universe eliminates age limits for all global pageants

New York, NY — The Miss Universe Organization announced the elimination of all age limits across the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) and all associated pageants for their 2024 season.

This was announced as R’Bonney Gabriel, current titleholder, walked as a surprise model in fashion label Tanner Fletcher’s NYFW SS24 show, for a collection titled “Beauty Pageant.” The show featured models of all ages, reminding the audience that women and beauty are not defined by age – and that the Miss Universe program should not be, either. “During our January show, R’Bonney was asked about an age extension, and she said – ‘if not now, when?’,” said Amy Emmerich, CEO of MUO. “She was our muse in making this decision, but it’s been a long time coming. As women, we all understand that youth is not and has never been a requirement for beauty, and there’s no reason why it should be a requirement for Miss Universe.”
This change will apply for all 2024 pageants globally. Starting then, every adult woman in the world will be eligible to compete to be Miss Universe. (Contestants must be 18 to join, and Miss Teen USA rules will not be changed.)

Paula Shugart, MUO President, said, “For years, we’ve had requests from fans and partners all over the world, reminding us that there is not a place for this restriction in an inclusive organization like ours. We agree, and look forward to this next chapter of the Miss Universe legacy.”Gabriel said, “As the oldest titleholder to date, I was very close to aging out of the competition myself, and I wanted my legacy here to be a shift in how we think about beauty and age going forward. I’m so glad to see that this will be a permanent change for my Miss Universe sisters.”“We are thrilled to have partnered with the Miss Universe Organization on a Beauty Pageant of our very own,’ says Fletcher Kasell, Co-Founder/ Co-Creative Director of Tanner Fletcher. “It’s wonderful to open up the world of Tanner Fletcher to other organizations who share a similar, uplifting and empowering vision. We are aligned on the belief that all people no matter the societal boxes they have been put into deserve to act as their authentic selves and be celebrated for it.”

For the 2023 season, Miss Universe also lifted restrictions around married women, divorced women, pregnant women, and mothers joining the program. To date, two mothers will be competing in this year’s finale. That show will take place in El Salvador on November 18 2023.
