We present our top 10 2024 makeup trends

 

While this list is a top 10 makeup trending guide that defined 2024, it is by no-means a complete list. This list is comprised of the trends we witnessed throughout the year as seen on celebrities, influencers, runways, and those within the Glamour Lifestyle Industry through our travels. Many trends are paramount looks of our industry (Smokey Eyes) and we have covered them in numerous previous editorials. We would like to take this opportunity bring you our favorite, but not always common, makeup trends that defined 2024.

The Eyes: Where to begin? From metallic and graphic liners to bold designs. 2024 could be considered the year-of-the-eye. This past year showcased geometric shapes, floating liners, and extended wings. Although the traditional standards of black and earth tones remained resilient, red carpets and stages were alight with eye-popping metallic pallets such as gold, silver, and bronze. Graphic liners were another trend that was embraced. Pastel colors dominated this trend and would immediately draw someone’s attention to the eyes.

The Brows: Brows tended to fall into two categories and both were exciting. On one eye, we have the thinner high arched brow, while on the other eye (pun intended), we have the throwback natural look of the featured or bushy brow. Both have been in the spotlight for years, and both can be a mainstay of your look… time permitting after designing your look.

Creating a high arched brow does not mean to pluck away everything in sight. Before beginning to shape the brow, decide the arch position and thinness you wish to achieve. Remember, you are “shaping” the brow. Shaped correctly, the thinner high arch will give you a sophisticated and elegant look

If you’re desiring a more “natural” look, you’ll want to stick with the “feathered or “bushy” styling. And bushy does not mean living with a unibrow and never addressing your eyebrows. Simply, it means to keep it simple and natural looking. The feathered look is achieved by brushing the brows upward to create a fuller brow appearance and naturally looking arch.

The Skin – Part 1: Dewy Skin was a hit on the red carpet and runway as it presented a healthy and radiant complexion to the camera. This is not a sweaty look, but a look with a subtle glow. This look is obtained by using foundations with moisturizer and cream infused blushes.

The Skin – Part 2: Like the aforementioned feathered brow, the natural look returns. This does not mean you are going makeup free, only that you are achieving a look that is natural and without a lot of overt colors. Some may consider this a “matte” styling and it does require a little more work to obtain this flawless perception. Using a primer to reduce imperfections and a matte foundation will provide you with the appearance of smooth and perfect skin.

Going Grunge: Whoever thought we would see a return to the days of flannel and dark accents popular in the 90s. But, makeup trends are cyclical and 2024 welcomed this trend back into the top 10, but only to a point… mostly the eyes. Yes, the eyes. Replete with smudged eyeliner and dark goth lipstick. This seemed to be an alternative look (another pun) to the ever present smokey eye.
